NEWPORT BEACH -- An unidentified man found unconscious on the beach

Sunday morning died of a heart attack, officials said following an

autopsy Monday.

Passersby found the man, who was between 35 and 40 years of age, lying

unconscious on the sand near the jetty at around 11 a.m., said Deputy

Cullen Ellinburgh of the Orange County Coroner’s office.

The man was taken to Hoag Hospital where he was pronounced dead, he

said.

“Based on the way he was dressed, he seemed to have been running or

jogging,” said Ellinburgh.

The man was wearing a gray Nike tank top, gray running shoes and blue

sweat shorts. Other than that, the man only had keys on his person, said

Ellinburgh, who described them as General Motors car keys. Also, he did

not have any identification on him.

The man had long brown hair and blue eyes, was 6 feet tall and weighed

about 225 pounds, he said.

Police had no luck finding the man’s car either, said Newport Beach

Sgt. Steve Shulman.

“We haven’t been able to locate a missing persons report either,” he

said. “It may be a few days before we identify this person or find out

anything about him.”

Police and the Coroner are looking for information about this person.
