Padres win two to stay unbeaten

The Padres kept their firm grip on first place in the Fountain Valley

Youth Baseball Pony Minor Division by beating the Cubs, 5-2, and the

Marlins, 2-1.

The pitching of Chad Blauer paved the way in the win over the Cubs,

who had just one earned run on four hits. Blauer also struck out 12 in

five innings of action.

The Padres’ offense was led by Mitchell Roemer, who went 2 for 2 with

two RBIs, and Ryan Rojas, who went 2 for 2 with an RBI, four stolen bases

and two runs scored.

Brad Minton went 3 for 3, and Chris Bergeron had an RBI double.

Against the Marlins, Rory Jones drove in Erick Koon with an RBI single

in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the Padres (7-0) to the 2-1

win. Koon led the Padres with a pair of singles and two runs scored.

Blauer notched another win with 4 2/3 innings of scoreless, one-hit

relief pitching, and 10 strikeouts.

Kurt Slanaker drove home Michael Wolff in the first inning to give the

Marlins their lone run, and pitcher Daniel Rogers also gave a strong

performance, limiting the Padres to one run on one hit in five innings,

and 10 strikeouts.
