Boys swim: Belden, Lean team up for Newport

NEWPORT BEACH - Ryan Lean and Peter Belden won two individual

events Wednesday as Newport Harbor High’s boys swim team defeated

visiting Aliso Niguel, 108-57, in the season’s final Sea View League dual

meet.

Belden won the 50-yard freestyle (22.55) and 100 free (50.34) and

competed on two winning relays, while Lean touched first in the 200 free

(1:47.78) and 100 backstroke (57.86).

Andrew Cole, Lean, Belden and anchor Joey Snelgrove won the 200 medley

relay (1:44.77) for Harbor, while Snelgrove, Steven Jendrusina, Michael

Vandenberg and Belden teamed for a winning time of 1:33.41 in the 200

free relay.

Cole (2:06 in the 200 individual medley), Andrew Sinclair (5:27.95 in

the 500 free) and Brad Dillman (1:10.34 in the 100 breaststroke) also won

individual events for Harbor, which improved to 6-2, 3-1 in league. Aliso

Niguel fell to 1-6, 1-3.

The Tars travel to Palm Springs for a nonleague meet Saturday, then

compete Tuesday in the Sea View League preliminaries at Irvine High. The

league finals are Friday.
