RETAIL ROUNDUP

We’re beginning to get the idea that Mother’s Day may be on the

horizon, judging from the various press releases and faxes received over

the past week or so.

Good news, though, out of the Harbor View Homes Recreation Center.

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, it will be hosting a spring boutique, put

on by the Mother’s Group at Our Lady Queen of Angels Church.

The angle on their sale, we’re quick to figure out, is things a mom

might want: jewelry, handbags, stationary, housewares, children’s gifts.

Heck, we might just pick up something for Father’s Day while we’re at

it.

The recreation center, by the way, is at 1900 Port Carlow Place,

Newport Beach, which is a bit off Bonita Canyon Drive.

Talk about value

The folks at Hallmark -- who may, now that we come to think of it,

have a financial stake in Mother’s Day -- surprised us with a bit of

mom-related news this week. Apparently, 29% of kids would pay their mom

$1 million for all she does -- provided, that is, they had “all the money

in the world.”

Kids, of course, are known for their generosity.

Another by the way: In the list of those things that mothers do,

“plays with me” is kids’ favorite, followed by “kisses me,” “hugs me” and

“feeds me.”

That pretty much destroys the whole “the way to a man’s heart is

through his stomach” idea. Just play with him!
