Girls swim: CdM cruises past Costa Mesa, 95-56

COSTA MESA - Corona del Mar High’s girls swim team swept all three

relays and featured four individual winners Wednesday as the Sea Kings

defeated host Costa Mesa, 95-56, in the season’s final Pacific Coast

League dual meet.

Lauren Powers (2:08 in the 200-yard freestyle), Vivian Liao (25.45 in

the 50 free), Kim McKay (1:04.30 in the 100 butterfly) and sophomore

Christina Hewko (1:08.95 in the 100 backstroke) were individual winners

for Corona del Mar, which finished 5-0 in PCL dual meets and 7-1-1

overall.

Jody Martinovich won the 200 IM (2:19.50) and 500 free (5:38.15) for

Mesa, while teammate and sister Wendy Martinovich touched first in the

100 breaststroke (1:12.90). Mesa’s Erin Bayes won the 100 free (55.03).

Mesa and CdM will compete in the PCL preliminaries Wednesday at Corona

del Mar. The league finals are Friday.
