Girls swim: Mackey, Geehr double individual winners for Newport

NEWPORT BEACH - Newport Harbor High’s girls swim team capped the

Sea View League dual-meet portion of the season Wednesday with a 123-47

victory over visiting Aliso Niguel.

Nicole Mackey won the 200-yard individual medley (2:05.25) and 100

freestyle (52.75) and swam first on two winning relays, while Carly Geehr

touched first in the 100 backstroke (1:00.30) and 50 free (25.46), while

also swimming on two first-place relays.

Mackey, Geehr, Jennifer Arrow and Mai Tajima won the 200 medley relay

for Harbor in 1:54.49, while Mackey, Geehr, Arrow and Erin Ball won the

200 free relay (1:44.55).

Jenna Murphy, Ashley Parole, Jessica Ball and Tajima formed Newport’s

winning 400 free relay (3:59.17).

Other individual winners for the Sailors were Murphy (2:06.16 in the

200 free), Hillary Kargas (1:06.27 in the 100 butterfly), Tajima (5:24.77

in the 500 free) and Arrow (1:08.60 in the 100 breaststroke).

The Sailors improved to 7-1, 3-1 in league. Aliso Niguel fell to 0-7,

0-4. The Tars travel to Palm Springs in a nonleague meet Saturday, then

compete in the Sea View League preliminaries Wednesday at Irvine High.
