Tennis: Lido Isle captures Southern California regional title

NEWPORT BEACH - The Lido Isle Tennis Club boys 12-and-under team

captured the Southern California Regional championship of the USA Penn

Junior Team Tennis League last weekend at UCLA.

Under the direction of coach Jon Flagg, head pro at Lido Isle, the

team defeated Rancho Bernardo Tennis Club, 3-1, in the finals Sunday.

Lido Isle knocked off Pacific Tennis Club of Westlake Village, 2-2

(35-32 on games), in the semifinals.

Ian Connolly played No. 1 singles for Lido Isle, while John Hutchinson

played No. 2 and Daron Arnold No. 3. Connor Curry and Wade Hatton played

doubles.

“I’m blessed with a few good athletes,” said Flagg, whose squad won

the fall division Orange County championship to reach the Southern

California regionals.

Lido Isle will play the spring division winner in June for the right

to play in a state championship against the Penn League Northern

California champion, in July.
