READERS RESPOND: How would a Mormon temple affect Newport Beach?

A new temple for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints can

only be a positive factor for the city of Newport Beach and other Orange

County communities. All current temples are beautiful edifices that

enhance their surroundings and provide a feeling of peace to all those

who view them. I too am ecstatic about this new temple. Although we are

fortunate to be within driving distance of both the Los Angeles temple

and the San Diego temple, to have access to these blessings only minutes

away, is a dream come true.

I think the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints temple is a

great idea. San Diego is proud of the one they have and even use it as a

traffic marker on the radio and TV news.

Only good could come from building a Mormon temple in Newport Beach.

As our society continues to decline in morality, family values and

integrity, is it not wonderful to see a pinnacle come into the community

that inspires all to strengthen their families, their values and reflect

upon God and his son, Jesus Christ? Or is Newport Beach more likely to

find good in their community by replacing the Mormon temple with a strip

mall, a movie theater, a bar, a gentleman’s club, etc.?

If you want a temple in Newport, don’t hide it in Bonita Canyon, put

it on the vacant property at Jamboree Road and East Coast Highway, where

everyone can see it and Moroni can blow his horn clear across the

Pacific.DAVID BARTH

I am so excited to have a Mormon temple in our community. They are

among the most beautiful architectural wonders and I know it will add

much to the beauty of the surrounding area. Thanks for your informative

article. I am looking forward to all the activities that will be

associated with this new major event for Newport Beach. It will make my

life and that of my family much better.

The forthcoming temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day

Saints in Newport Beach will be a beacon of spirituality in a beautiful

and wonderful city. Our family has lived in Newport Beach for 37 years.

Our membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has

permitted us to visit many of our temples. How wonderful it will be to

have one nearby, thus eliminating the 100-mile round-trip to Los Angeles.

We thank the Daily Pilot for helping us spread the good news. We have

been subscribers to the Pilot for all 37 years and applaud your thorough,

informative and accurate coverage of our area.
