Huntington Beach detectives have nabbed a Garden Grove man suspected

of holding three residents against their will to evade police.

Police said they arrested Robert Darling, 46, on suspicion of

receiving stolen property, kidnapping and false imprisonment, burglary

and felony evading, as well as felon in possessionof a firearm.

Sgt. Janet Perez, spokeswoman for the Huntington Beach Police

Department, said detectives were seeking Darling as a suspect since April

21, when an officer attempted to stop him for a traffic violation at

about 5:30 p.m.

Darling, driving a tan 1977 Volvo station wagon, drove into the

residential neighborhood of Lilac Lane and Toulouse Drive, then fled on

foot carrying a .45 Colt semiautomatic handgun, she added.

He allegedly then made his way into a residence, holding its three

occupants captive before forcing one to drop him off at a local gas

station once police officers left the area.

Perez said an investigation led detectives to a residence in the 16000

block of Marie Lane on April 26, where they served a search warrant and

began looking for Darling.

While detectives were at the location, Darling reportedly walked up to

the front door of the home where he was taken into custody without

incident.

He was charged at the Huntington Beach jail and later transferred to

Orange County jail with bail set at $100,000.
