Marlins win first half title, despite loss to Devil Rays

The Marlins had the Majors Division championship in hand before they

met the Devil Rays last Saturday, and it was a good thing, as the Devil

Rays posted a 7-1 victory in Fountain Valley Little League action at Mile

Square Park.

Les Obie, Kevin Smisko and Jeff Dang all had singles, Kyle Yoakum

scored twice, and Smisko struck out seven in a complete game effort as

the Devil Rays finished in second place at 7-3.

Nick McIsaac and Jeff Spirk each singled twice and Bobby Johnson

singled for the Marlins (8-2).

In other games:

Cardinals 5, Dodgers 3

The Cardinals (5-5) used timely hits, a double by Ricky Rea and

singles by Nathan Lachenmeyer, Zach Cardinelli and Gordon Edwards to beat

the Dodgers.

Yankees 5, Mariners 1

Matt Fink doubled and scored twice, Matt James singled, scored twice

and pitched a complete game, striking out nine to lead the Yankees (6-4).

Justin Massux singled twice and Joe Musser doubled for the Mariners.

MINOR A DIVISION

Mets 7, Yankees 5

The Mets (9-1) claimed the first half title, using two singles by Neil

Mira, Chris Van Vuuren and Chris Martinez, and a Kyle Ball double, to

defeat the Yankees. Mike Delicce doubled and singled for the Yanks.

Mariners 15, Dodgers 6

Nile Marquez doubled and singled and Robert Reynolds tripled for the

Mariners (6-4).

Magic Lucio and James Hinson each singled for the Dodgers.

Diamondbacks 12, Cardinals 11 Peter Fontez tripled, Cody Morad doubled and eight different players

scored as the Diamondbacks won their third straight to end the first half

of play. For the Cardinals, Brittany Schutte and Taylor Stanton doubled.

MINOR B DIVISION

Devil Rays 14, Brewers 13

Bobby Kunkel delivered a bases loaded triple and a single and Chad

Martin and Armando Mendoza each had two singles to lead the Devil Rays.

Matthew Brown, Daniel Resnick, Nick Loukides and Julius Zarasate each

singled twice for the Brewers.

Cardinals 18, Mariners 14

James Hong hit a two-run home run, Joshua Garcia tripled and Robbie

Daquila doubled for the Cardinals; Jason Schwartz singled and Zach

Edwards scored three runs for the Mariners.

Marlins 10, Dodgers 7

Cody Hilleboe had a two-RBI double for the Marlins; Nicholas Naranjo

doubled to lead the Dodgers.

Yankees 8, Pirates 5

James Williams and Nicholas Peraccio each singled twice and Mike

Peraccio doubled to lead the Yankees; James Sampler went 3 for 3 and

Daryl Foster and Fletcher Lambright doubled for the Pirates.
