HB Stars take third in tourney play

The HB Stars out of AYSO Region 143 (Westminster/Huntington Beach)

captured third place at last weekend’s Chino Hills Kickin’ It Up in The

Hills Tournament.

In their pool, the Stars defeated Culver City, 3-0, and Rowland

Heights, 2-0, but fell to host Chino Hills, 2-0.

Despite that setback, the Stars were able to secure the wild card spot

in the medal round.

There, they met rival Cypress in the semifinal round and dropped a

tough 1-0 decision.

In the tournament, Loren Kortizija and Loren Peaslee scored four goals

between them, and Carolanne Coolidge scored once. Goalie Heather Bystrom

posted two shut outs and earned the team’s Most Valuable Player award for

the tournament.

Diana Johnson, Gena Johnson, Casey Mosard, Lindsey Rodgers, Gale

Schenk, Jacqueline Stoter, Lauren Swensen and Emily Tims all contributed

to the tournament success of the Stars, who are now 22-8-4 overall, with

20 shutouts.
