ALISO VIEJO - The Newport Harbor High boys volleyball team

rebounded from a Game 1 loss to roll past host Aliso Niguel, 14-6, 15-0,

15-6, 15-1, Friday.

The loss came with some bad news. Standout outside hitter Blake

Tippett is out indefinitely battling a case of mononucleosis. His status

for the upcoming CIF Southern Section playoffs is uncertain, as well as

tonight’s Battle of the Bay at Corona del Mar (6:30).It’s a tough loss,

but the rest of the team is going to have to pick up the slack,” Coach

Dan Glenn said. “This isn’t the best time to be without Blake.”

Morgan Craig led Newport (10-7, 6-2 in league) with 17 kills, while

Greg Perrine added 12.

Erik Peterson and Jamie Diefenbach chipped in 10 kills each for the

Sailors.
