Padres still cream of the crop

The Padres improved to 11-0 on the season by scoring a pair of Pony

Division victories during recent Fountain Valley Youth Baseball action.

The Padres edged the Diamondbacks, 5-4, then hung on to defeat the

Cubs, 12-9.

Against the Diamondbacks, Rory Jones got the win with two innings of

scoreless relief pitching work. Offensively, Chad Blauer went 2 for 2

with a double and Jones and Mitchell Roemer also doubled for the Padres.

Sean Catron and Nick Bermel paced the Diamondback attack, both going 2

for 3. Catron also turned in a strong pitching performance.

In beating the Cubs, the Padres built a 10-2 lead, then held on for

the win. Jones started on the mound and limited the Cubs to one earned

run and had five strikeouts over three innings.

Offensively, Roemer and Ryan Rojas each went 2 for 2 and Blauer and

Thomas Burns had RBI doubles.

Brad Minton and Issa Sakhel each had two hits and Giovanni Rodriguez

hit an RBI double to lead the Cubs.
