White Sox rip Angels, 13-1

The White Sox made quick work of the Angels last Saturday, needing

just 4 1/2 innings in a 13-1 Mercy Rule victory in Majors Division play.

The White Sox came up with 11 hits, led by Justin Thompson, Hunter

White and Michael Mendez, each of whom singled twice. Drew Duffy also

doubled.

Pitchers Drew Johnson and Mendez combined on a two-hit effort, with

Johnson getting six strikeouts in four innings. Mendez fanned two in the

final inning.

Mike Jacinto singled and scored the Angels’ only run. Sean Laveneau

also singled.

In other games:

A’s 3, Diamondbacks 1

Fred Thomas’ two-RBI single and Cody Walker’s RBI single, both in the

first inning, proved to be all the offense the A’s would need. In

addition, Pablo McBeth and Kyle Ammons doubled. A’s pitchers Race

Parmenter and Alex Barnes each struck out four.

For the Diamondbacks, Jenna Balester singled twice and scored the

team’s only run on Patrick Hart’s RBI single. Chase Barnes doubled.

Pitcher Jeffrey Andrews allowed just one hit after the first

inning.Rangers 2, Mariners 1

Trevor Briggs had three singles and Shawn Stiffler and Terin Marlatt

each singled and scored to lead the Rangers; Karcher Morris doubled and

singled and Chad Heberden scored the lone run for the Mariners.

MINOR A DIVISION

Cardinals 17, Yankees 0

The Cardinals’ hit parade included two doubles and a triple by Tim

Higgins, a triple and single by Ryan Little. Brian Schwartz, Nick Mazzone

and Anthony Hainsworth each had a double and single. Pitchers Dave

Folger, Mazzone and Little combined to strike out nine and limit the

Yanks to two hits -- singles by Matt Jacinto and Ryan Martinazzi.

Dodgers 12, Mets 7

Huntington Hardesty singled twice with two RBI, John Christopoulos

doubled and singled with an RBI, Dylan McDiarmid doubled with an RBI and

Christian Slaton singled and doubled to lead the Dodgers. Jake Gordon

tripled and singled for the Mets.

Marlins 9, Indians 3

Marlins pitchers Barry Little, Bennett Allen and Jimmy Miller combined

to strike out 11. Allen singled with two walks, Miller doubled and

singled, Michael Chairez singled and doubled and Robert Toth singled

twice. For the Indians, Alex Holtz tripled and singled, Brayden Kent

singled twice and Jeremy Sullivan tripled.

MINOR B DIVISION

White Sox 8, Yankees 1

Pitchers Anthony Portante, Brian Corder and Jake Little combined for a

three-hitter. Michael Pellegrino singled and doubled with a pair of RBI,

and Portante had two RBI to lead the Sox; Jordan Condrey, Alex Shakas and

Luke Holler all singled for the Yankees.

Dodgers 8, Cubs 4

Ben Hunt singled and doubled, Eric Kichline and Chance Hallford

doubled. Pitchers Jordan Beasley, Dalton Douty and Jordan Singh combined

to strike out 12 and yield just two hits to power the Dodgers.

Marlins 12, Cardinals 7

Josh Hammer and Alex Talbert each had two singles for the Marlins;

Ryan Mearig singled twice and doubled, Kyle Insley singled three times,

Zach Michaels singled twice and Houston Hill doubled for the Marlins.
