NBLL Majors: Tigers double-up Red Sox

NEWPORT BEACH - Nick Peterson hit a three-run home run in the

bottom of the sixth inning to lead the Tigers over the Red Sox, 6-3, in

Newport Beach Little League Majors Division action.

The Red Sox broke open a scoreless tie with three runs in the fifth

inning, thanks to key hits from Ted Lee, Kory Kough and Thomas Kosnaski.

But the Tigers rallied with three runs of their own, thanks to a

strong offensive effort by Peterson, Andrew Millian, Cody Waldron, Scott

Shafer.

Red Sox pitcher James Alfi had four shutout innings before being

lifted in the fifth.

In other Majors Division action:

Cardinals 10, Diamondbacks 8 - William O’Brien had three hits, while

Ryan Telles added two hits to lead the Cards.

Sam Stafford, Aaron Northcraft and Collin Wigely each had one hit,

while Chris Rosen and Greg Garte contributed to the Cards’ offense with

two hits each.

Dodgers 6, Cardinals 5 - Ryan Telles had two hits and William O’Brien

and Greg Wolonsky each added key hits for the Cardinals, but the Dodgers

rallied late to pull out the win.

Cardinals 12, Mariners 2 - Aaron Northcraft led the Cardinals with

three hits, while William O’Brien and Sam Stafford each added two hits

for the Cards.

Ryan Telles had a key hit for the Cards, while Tyler Brady, James

Petrilli and Collin Wigely each and an RBI and a run scored.

For the Mariners, Tom Solis had a double and two RBIs.

Giants 10, Braves 3 - Danny Moskovits had three hits and three RBIs to

lead the Giants over the Braves.

Andy Bender had two hits and three RBIs, while Tommy Hutchison chipped

in two hits and a run scored for the Giants.

Also adding to the Giants were Danny Hurst, Max Rollins, Kevin Dearen

and Mark Kanow, while Moskovits, Nick Taylor and Phillip Bannan led the

pitching.

In AAA Division action:

Mets 11, Yankees 0 - Pitchers Matt Morris and Jeff Jones combined to

toss a two-hit shutout for the Mets in their win over the Yankees.

The Mets’ offense was supported by Beau Attyah, Brad Hess, Brian

Hurst, Scott Frazier, Ronnie Sadler and Timmy Winning.

Mariners 12, Braves 8 - Ryan Gladych and Anna Palchikoff each had

three hits to lead the M’s over the Braves.

Gladych drove in three runs, while Palchikoff stole three bases for

the Mariners.

Tommy Colton had two hits and scored three runs for the Braves, while

Michelle Zucker pitched well in the final inning to preserve the win.

The Braves were led by Kyle Hill, Scott Ely, Michael Borchard, Michael

Hay and Tyler Haly.

Mariners 10, Red Sox 1 - Kirk MacDonald had three hits and scored two

runs to lead the Mariners over the Red Sox.

Sean Tokuyama also picked up two key hits and scored two runs, while

Hunter Alder had a double and two RBIs.

Other Mariner contributions came from Tommy Colton, Eric Hansen and

Ryan Gladych.

The Red Sox were led by James Cunningham, Matt Wheatley and Trevor

Cleary.

Angels 7, Diamondbacks 6 - After jumping out to a 5-0 lead, the Angels

fell behind, 6-5, only to rally late to win.

Leading the Angels’ comeback were Conner Bannon, Taylor Stone, Andrew

Mason, Parker Stone, Randell Nelson, Scott Eskew, Tennyson Mitchell, Eric

Mutzke, Alex Shafnitz and Guy Sutherland.

For the D-Backs, Jerry Kazmierczak scored twice, while Mason Sayer,

West Chandler, Brian Yasukocki, Sam French, Kendall Pick, Daniel Morris,

Aaron Ettl, and Merrett Scott each contributed offensively.

In AA Division action:

Dodgers 11, Mets 2 - Pitchers Nick Flamson and Chase Nugent combined

to strikeout 10 to lead the Dodgers.

The Dodgers’ defense was keyed by David Weiland, Kyle Danese, Jarrett

Logan and Gustaf Hellmer, while Francesco Impagliazzo, Karl Fletcher and

Carter Taylor sparked the offense.

J.D. Abbott had a solo home run, while Kyle Canale, Tyler Norwood,

Chris Carlile and John Cazort each had solid all-around games for the

Mets.

Mariners 5, Cardinals 2 - The Mariners were led by strong pitching

from John Christian and Doug Watt as well as solid defense by Matt Ruiz,

Alec Pastre and Alex Mainthow.

The Cardinals were led by Josh Starnes, Cameron Koziara, Kyle Jessen

and Garrett Larson.

Dodgers 7, Diamondbacks 6 - The offensive foursome of Nick Flamson,

Jarrett Logan, Chris Burke and Kyle Danese combined for five hits, two

doubles and a triple for the Dodgers.

The Dodgers’ defense was sparked by David Weiland, Chase Nugent, Karl

Fletcher, Carter Taylor and Gustaf Hellmer.

The Diamondbacks were led offensively by Chris Freeman and Mattias

Russo-Larson and defensively by Peter Weidner.

Angels 11, Mets 6 - Jack Gerdau, Brett Berkley and Cory Vitalo

combined for seven runs scored to lead the Angels over the Mets.

On defense, Patrick Vorwerck, Brent Gray and Gerdau each played well

for the Angels.

Chase Carlile had two hits and pitched well for the Mets.

Angels 12, Yankees 8 - Hunter O’Brien had two hits, including a grand

slam and five RBIs to lead the Angels over the Yankees.

Patrick Vorwerck, Cory Vitalo, Andrew Dunla, Emery Molnar and Brett

Berkley each had key hits for the Angels, while Nick Couchot, Chris

Seagren, Austin Allen and Derek Spreitzer anchored the defense.

For the Yankees, clutch hitting came from Blake Terry, Steven Bruno,

Jamie Heineke, Chris Alvarez and Nico Napolitano.

Red Sox 9, Angels 9 - Despite the strong pitching of Nick Couchot and

Cory Vitalo, who combined for 12 strikeouts, the Angels could only muster

a tie against the Red Sox in a battle for first place.

The Angels’ offense was led by Patrick Vorwerck, Andrew Dunlap, Brett

Berkley, Jack Gerdau, Austin Allen and Brent Gray.

The Red Sox received strong offensive support from Parker Werline,

Blake Thomsen, Weston Nielson and Will Morrow.
