Mitchell leads Yanks in 9-3 win over Mariners

Jeff Mitchell’s big day at the plate Saturday sparked the Yankees, who

went on to beat the Mariners, 9-3 in Majors Division play.

Mitchell paced the Yankees’ attack with four hits, three RBI and two

runs scored.

Mark Cubberly and Matt James each had two singles for the Yankees.

The Mariners received two singles from Justin Maddux and a double by

Ryan Buckles.

Marlins 4, Devil Rays 2

The Marlins won behind Jeff Spirk’s 12 strikeout complete game. Zach

Moore, Spirk, Ryan McNicol, Bobby Johnson and Nick McIsaac all had hits.

Eric Dyson singled and scored to lead the Devil Rays.

Cardinals 8, Dodgers 5

Ricky Begg and Brian Faust led the Cardinals’ 12-hit attack with three

hits each. Ricky Rea tripled and singled and Grant Furuya had two

singles.

For the Dodgers, Joel Stanton continued his hot streak by going 3 for

3, Kyle Ziething tripled and singled, Erik Rhoten singled twice and

Michael Kang had an RBI double.

Dodgers 6, Devil Rays 2

Joel Stanton went 4 for 4, scored three runs and pitched the entire

game, striking out nine, to lead the Dodgers. Skyler Winston doubled and

singled and Kyle Ziething and Aaron Malais each singled twice for the

Dodgers.

Kevin Smisko tripled, singled and scored twice and Alex Moreno doubled

and singled to pace the Devil Rays.

Yankees 7, Cardinals 6

Robert Johnson’s game-winning RBI single in the seventh inning scored

Matt James to lead the Yankees, who also received two singles from Mark

Cubberly.

Ricky Begg singled twice and Grant Furuya tripled for the Cardinals.

Mariners 6, Marlins 1

Joe Musser tripled, singled and finished with three RBI, Matt

Hernandez doubled and scored and Ryan Buckles and Justin Maddux each

scored twice for the Mariners.

The Marlins’ Spirk doubled and scored.

MINOR A DIVISION

Diamondbacks 7, Cardinals 5

Matt Souders had a pair of singles for the Diamondbacks; Josh

Ishizaki, Tyler James, Alex Ackel and Johnny Brewer all singled for the

Cardinals.

Mariners 8, Dodgers 7

Shawn Watkins tripled and Dustin Kuhn doubled for the Mariners; Kevin

Osaki tripled and singled for the Dodgers.

Yankees 11, Diamondbacks 9

The Yankees scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to pull

out the win. Elton Stolze doubled and singled twice and Sean Taylor had

two singles for the victors.

Tyler Buckles led the Diamondbacks with with three singles and three

runs scored, Joe Green singled twice and Kyle Myers tripled.

Mariners 6, Cardinals 1

Joe Peters and Taylor Wilson singled twice for the Mariners; Alex

Leemhuis and Brittany Schutte singled for the Cardinals.

Dodgers 5, Mets 3

Jordan Magana singled and scored twice and Gabriel Rubio singled for

the Dodgers; Chris Kane, Mo Alasker and Neal Mira all singled for the

Mets.
