Boys tennis: CdM keeps it rolling, 15-3

VENTURA - The Corona del Mar High boys tennis team kept its

dominant train rolling Tuesday with a 15-3 quarterfinals win over host

St. Bonaventure in the CIF Southern Section Division V playoffs.

“We got off to a very good start today and that helped a lot,” CdM

Coach Tim Mang said. “We’re excited about playing in the semifinals on

Thursday.”

The top seeded Sea Kings were led by the strong singles play of

Cameron Ball and Garrett Snyder, who each swept their three sets. The duo

won 36 out of 41 games.

Senior standout Brian Morton, headed for UC Irvine next year, swept

his first two singles sets without losing a game before retiring in the

third set with a right arm injury. According to Mang, Morton will be

ready for Thursday’s semifinals.

“His bursitis flared up again so instead of making it worse, we just

shut him down,” Mang said. “He forgot to bring his Advil today.”

In doubles action, Peter Kulmaticki and Michael Bean swept through the

competition, while Shaan Wadhwa and Ryan Stockwell also pulled the set of

the day, according to Mang.

“St. Bonaventure played their No. 1 doubles team in the third slot and

Shaan and Ryan pulled out a 6-4 win against them,” Mang said. “That was

very nice to see.”

The top-seeded Sea Kings (21-0) will host Harvard-Westlake Thursday at

3:15 p.m.
