The city of Huntington Beach will hold its 5th annual Memorial Day

Service for Huntington Beach veterans from 11 a.m. to noon Monday at

Huntington Beach City Hall, 2000 Main St.

The service is to honor those from the Huntington Beach area who

fought, died, are still fighting, prisoners of war and those who are

missing in action. The service will include a 20-member choir, guest

speakers, a Marine Corps color guard and rifle detail and a Huntington

Beach Police Department helicopter flyover. In addition, two names from

the Korean War will be added to the memorial. Information: (714)

Surfing Museum seeking surfers for parade

The International Surfing Museum is seeking surfers from different

countries to participate in the Fourth of July parade. The float will

also feature various surfers including Robert August, Pete Townsend,

Jerrico Popplar and the longboard crew and the surf band Jon and the

Night Riders.

Crime Biter awards presented to community

Fountain Valley Chief Elvin G. Miali presented the Crime Biter awards

and certificates of recognition to deserving members of the community

this month.

Ten recipients were recognized for their actions and were nominated

for the award by a member of the department. Each of the recipients

received a certificate depicting McGruff the Crime Dog and was signed by

Miali.

Benefit honors special Olympians

Athletes of the Orange County Special Olympics were recognized for

their achievements through the “To Protect and Serve” benefit at Claim

Jumper restaurant in Fountain Valley.

All tips received by police personnel were donated to the organization

and the Police Department displayed some of the emergency vehicles.

The Special Olympics will start on June 15 and the Fountain Valley

Police Department will participate in the Special Olympics Torch Run.

Members of the department will run the torch approximately four miles

through Fountain Valley and hand it off to the Huntington Beach Police

Department.

Fire Department to train on use of extinguishers

The Huntington Beach Fire Department Energy Services Office will

present a class on using fire extinguishers from 7:45 a.m. to noon June 2

at the Huntington Beach Fire Department Central Net Training Center,

18301 Gothard St.

Participants will learn how to effectively use a fire extinguisher,

shut off natural gas, electricity and water, secure water heaters and

migrate hazards in the home.

Training is free to participate but each attendee must bring a fire

extinguisher or purchase a five-pound extinguisher to use and recharge.
