Ross on target as Pirates blank Dodgers, 5-0

Cort Ross was on the money Saturday and the Pirates backed his

outstanding pitching performance with a solid defense and productive

offense as they blanked the Dodgers, 5-0, in Majors Division play.

Ross, in a complete game effort, struck out 14 and allowed just one

hit, a single by the Dodgers’ Tyler Chapman.

Matt Seymour paced the Pirates on offense with his first home run of

the season -- a two-run shot -- and Kyle Hammontree doubled.

In other games:

Yankees 12, Reds 2

In his first appearance of the season on the mound, Ian Gould struck

out eight and allowed the Reds just three hits to lead the Yankees.

The Yankees were led on offense by Addison Babinski, who doubled and

Bryan Koblyka, Cameron Fraser and Gould with singles.

Scott Davis doubled and Fockler and Rob McCarty singled to account for

the Reds’ three hits.

Angels 7, Cardinals 0

Johnny Schoenberger belted home runs in consecutive at-bats and also

singled for three RBI, Daniel Salcius doubled twice, Brad Adams doubled

and singled and David McLaughlin pitched a shutout with six strikeouts

and four hits to power the Halos. Mark Brooks tripled for the Cardinals.

Cardinals 4, Dodgers 2

Carl Eberts’ complete game included nine strikeouts and four hits, and

Austin Morgan doubled to lead the Cardinals. Michael Lucas doubled twice

and Tyler Chapman singled twice, in addition to going the distance for

the Dodgers with a two-hitter.

Angels 6, Yankees 4

The pitching of Johnny Schoenberger and Brad Adams yielded 14

strikeouts and just three hits. Adams, David McLaughlin and Bree

Williston had base hits. For the Yankees, Mike Miner, Bryan Koblyka and

Steven Rentas had hits.

Pirates 11, Reds 1

Kyle Higashioka had two hits and combined with Eric Uttecht (who

singled) to allow just one hit to lead the Pirates. David Ianecone

homered for the Reds.
