A San Gabriel man died last week after being crushed in a construction

accident at the site of the future Hyatt Regency Grand Coast Resort in

Huntington Beach.

Raymond Paul Corder, a 45-year-old construction worker, succumbed to

internal injuries sustained at his job site at about 3:15 p.m. May 16.

Corder was crushed while unloading a crane from a flatbed truck at the

site, near the intersection of Beach Boulevard and Pacific Coast Highway,

Huntington Beach Fire Department officials said.

A section of the crane apparently became loose as it was being

unloaded and fell on Corder, who was taken to UCI Medical Center for

treatment and later died.

City officials said another worker was hurt in the accident and an

investigation is underway as to its cause.

Suspects sought in ransack of home

Huntington Beach police were still searching Monday for two men

suspected of invading an elderly woman’s home and ransacking the place

while she looked on.

Lt. Ron Burgess of the Huntington Beach Police Department said

resident Vi Chau Cong-Pang, 85, was found by her granddaughter after her

home, in the 7000 block of Anita Lane, was in tatters at about 2:35

Friday.

“The granddaughter had returned from school to find [Cong-Pang] on the

floor against the living room sofa with bound hands and feet,” he added.

“The home had been ransacked.”

There was no sign of the two suspects, who are described as males and

last seen wearing black masks, dark clothing and black gloves at the

residence, said police officials.

Though the point of entry into the home is unknown, the suspects

appear to have forcibly bound Cong-Pang, gone through the place and left

before her granddaughter returned home, they added.

Burgess said Cong-Pang was taken to a nearby hospital after the ordeal

as a precautionary measure, and amount of lost property and other effects

has yet to be determined.
