The Newport Dunes Resort will present family movies to be viewed for

free on a 9-by-12-foot screen on the beach through Sept. 1. Some of the

blockbuster hits include “The Kid,” which will show tonight, “102

Dalmatians,” “Hoosiers” and “Field of Dreams.”

In honor of Father’s Day, every movie shown on Saturday evenings in

June will have a sports theme.

Movies will start at 8 p.m. Fridays in May, and Fridays and Saturdays

June 1 through Sept. 1. Campfires will be available for roasting

marshmallows and making s’ mores.

Eclectic Orange wants festival friends

Organizers of the Eclectic Orange Festival have formed a support group

called “Friends of the Festival.” Members will have opportunities to

participate in the festival and gain special access. Some of the events

include a trip to the Getty Museum in July, private parties through the

summer and a visit to the Salzburg International Festival in August.

SCR to hold Professional Conservatory auditions

South Coast Repertory’s Professional Conservatory will hold auditions

for the eight-week summer training program through June 1. Classes will

be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 5 through July 28 at SCR, and

students will be invited to the fourth annual Pacific Playwrights

Festival’s seven staged readings.

Serious acting students are encouraged to audition, and videotapes

will be accepted from applicants outside of Southern California. Tuition
