A 60-year-old Glendora man died Tuesday morning when he hit his

motorcycle against the rail of a tow truck while traveling southbound on

the San Diego Freeway, California Highway Patrol officials said.

The collision occurred about 11 a.m. when the Victor Allen Everling’s

motorcycle struck the right rail of a 1995 Chevrolet tow truck from

behind, said CHP Officer Joann O’Hair.

Both were traveling in the fourth lane of the southbound San Diego

Freeway, south of Fairview Road, she said.

Everling was riding a 1998 Honda Valkyrie. He was thrown off the bike,

O’Hair said.

He was wearing a helmet but not one approved by the U.S. Department of

Transportation, O’Hair said.

She said traffic was snarled for more than an hour after the crash

while four of the lanes were closed.
