FOUNTAIN VALLEY -- City Clerk Susan Lynn was honored by the City

Clerks Assn. of California with an award of distinction for special

projects in a ceremony held at the Riverside Convention Center.

“They read my name and I was stunned and speechless,” Lynn said. “I

told them that I make a life by writing and was stuck for words. There

are a lot of city clerks in California [500] with a lot more experience

then me; it really caught me off guard.”

Colleen Nicol, association president who presented Lynn with the

award, praised her for extending her expertise to areas not traditionally

associated to a city clerk’s profession.

“Her active approach has brought not only substantial financial

benefits to her community, but recognition to the city clerk’s profession

as a whole,” Nicol said. “We are very proud of her, and I was delighted

to present her the award of distinction.”

This honor was given to Lynn mainly because of her work she has done

in securing state and federal grants for the development of Mile Square

Park in Fountain Valley. She has also and is still currently working on

making the Fountain Valley municipal code accessible via the Internet.

Out of the first three years she has worked as Fountain Valley’s city

clerk, Lynn said that the first year was the most arduous. During that

time, Lynn had to endure a regular and special elections as well as the

recall process of former Councilman Jim Petrikin, which was eventually

dropped after Petrikin resigned. Lynn took the minimum amount of time,

three years, to complete her city clerk certification.

Lynn, who has 15 years of municipal government experience, said that

it was nice to be recognized with such an honor.

Fountain Valley Mayor Larry Crandall said that Lynn’s work has been

exemplary, and she is an asset to the city and its residents.

“This is a typical example of the city and its staff,” he said. “She

is an outstanding employee and always gives 110%.”
