Dodgers hold off Yankees, A’s

The Dodgers came up with two nail-biting wins last week in Majors

Division action.

In beating the Yankees, 6-5, the Dodgers scored four runs in the first

inning, then held on behind the pitching of James Miller (three innings),

Matt Ayster and Brett Sterbens. The Dodgers’ four runs were highlighted

by hits by Miller, Ayster and Michael Patriarca.

The Yankees rallied for two runs in the sixth inning behind Adrian

Conger’s double and an Anthony Peralta single, but came up short.

In a wild game against the A’s, both teams scored at will in an

eventual 13-11 win by the Dodgers. Sterbens pitched the final three

innings to post the save. Miller and Ayster each finished with two hits

to lead the Dodgers. Bryan Van Arsdale doubled for the A’s.

In other games:

Mets 19, Giants 0

The Mets exploded for 18 hits as Scott Melchert finished with four

hits and five RBI, including a two-run home run in the third inning.

Michael Cherf homered in the fourth inning, Troy Davis pounded out four

hits and two RBI, which included three doubles, Patrick Daugherty had two

hits and three RBI and Matt Mountford came up with three hits and a pair

of RBI.

Ian Cable doubled and Mickey Moses and Travis Geery each singled to

account for the Giants’ three hits.

Yankees 3, Giants 1

The pitching of Charlie Martin (five innings) and Joseph Park led the

Yankees.
