Braves stage late rally to top Mets, 11-9

In a game that featured six lead changes and extra innings, the Braves

outlasted the Mets, 11-9, in Majors Division action.

Todd Locken’s two-out home run in the top of the sixth inning tied the

game for the Braves, who then scored two more runs in the seventh for the

come-from-behind win.

Trailing by two runs with one out in the sixth, Kevin Powers gave the

Braves hope with his third hit of the game. That brought Locken to the

plate, and he took an 0-1 pitch over the fence for his third home run of

the season.

Locken then went to the mound to shut down the Mets in order in the

bottom of the sixth, to send the game into extra innings.

In the seventh, Kyle Suthiemer singled with one out, advanced to

second base on a passed ball, stole third and scored on a throwing error

to give the Braves a 10-9 edge. Sean Daniels followed with a ground-rule

double and scored on Keegan Grebe’s single.

Locken pitched his way out of a jam in the bottom of the seventh to

preserve the victory.

In addition to his home run, Locken doubled, walked, scored four runs

and had three RBI.

Andrew Compton had two hits for the Braves, while Nathan Roe and James

Spoolstra each had a pair of hits for the Mets.
