Orange County health officials put up warning signs at Harbor Patrol

Beach, near the Balboa Yacht Club in Newport Harbor, after

higher-than-permitted levels of human waste bacteria were found.

The Orange County Health Care Agency posted the sign at 4 p.m.

Wednesday. It remained up on Thursday.

Health officials said they would remove the sign from the 200-foot

beach after additional testing revealed that the beach water meets the

state’s standard of 104 organisms per 100 milliliters. A Tuesday sample

revealed a 140-count in the beach waters.

The agency found enterococcus bacteria, one of several types officials

test to detect.

The agency also removed a posted warning at Sapphire Avenue on the

south shore of Balboa Island on Wednesday.
