B.W. COOK -- The Look

Memorial Day signals the end of pearl-wearing season. Of course,

retailers say there is no right or wrong time to wear certain jewelry

during the year. And truthfully, what looks more elegant than a strand of

pearls adorning a summer-tanned body?

Well, did you know that that summer-tanned body and all of its oils

and lotions can be harmful to the life of your pearl necklace? That’s why

the experts say put away the good pearls during the summertime and get

out your gold, silver and platinum to shine in the moonlight.

CUTLINES

1) Tiffany & Co. presents the gold standard for the season. This

selection of Tiffany signature jewelry made of 18-karat gold includes a

classic link bracelet with coordinating ring and earrings, available at

the Tiffany South Coast Plaza store. Pieces from the gold jewelry

collection cost from $125 to $30,000.

2) Gold bangle bracelets are the rage. This bangle, shown with ring

and earrings, is also from Tiffany & Co. in South Coast Plaza.

3) Several years ago, Tiffany introduced its ATLAS Collection of fine

jewelry and timepieces. The grooved borders of the matte-finished

surfaces hold a tailored interpretation of the raised Roman numerals

featured on the bezel of the now classic Tiffany ATLAS watch.

4) Neiman Marcus at Fashion Island offers designer David Yurman’s

collection known as Pink Passion Silver Ice. The jewelry is a mix of

carved pink tourmaline and diamonds set in sterling silver. Some of the

collection, shown here including a necklace, earrings and a ring, sells

for between $750 and $4,200.

5) The inspiration of exotic lands has influenced designs coming from

Pade Vavra. This bold designer makes stunning enamel pieces that are

carefully hand-painted, then fired, and richly beaded with semiprecious

stones. The designer, above all, has said she wants to make the wearer

feel sensual with her jewelry, calling them “seduction bon bons.” For

your own bon bons, check out the selection at Ice Accessories at South

Coast Plaza. The rings retail for about $130.
