SPOTLIGHT
BALBOA ISLAND PARADE
Antique firetrucks, decorated floats, marching bands and more will
stream down Bayside Drive and onto Marine Avenue today during the eighth
annual Balboa Island Parade. Originally organized as a one-time
celebration commemorating the island’s new fire station, the parade has
become a yearly spectacle that some organizers have compared to the Doo
Dah Parade in Pasadena -- a smaller version, of course.
Thousands are expected to attend this year’s hometown spectacle, which
is themed “Island Daze.” Strolling musicians, face painters and a pet
parade are planned as part of the fun. Food will also be available. Bring
your lawn chair.
