NHBA Bronco: Dodgers advance to semifinals

NEWPORT BEACH - The Dodgers busted out the heavy lumber en route to

a 17-3 win over the Giants in the Newport Harbor Baseball Association

Bronco Division (ages 11-12) playoffs.

R.J. D’Cruz had four hits, including two doubles and four RBIs, while

Jarrett Daniel added a single, a two-run home run and three RBIs and Eric

Paine contributed two doubles, a single and three RBIs.

Ian Goodwin, Jerry Whitney and Robert Tumlin also added key hits for

the Dodgers, while Trey LaGrandeur and Jake Dayton combined to score

three runs.

Dan Winkle and Alan Orozco each played well defensively for the

Dodgers, while Paine led the pitching with five strikeouts over three

innings.

For the Giants, Chris Lomenzo pitched three solid innings and had a

double and a single, while Erik Bonn, Taylor Friend, Cameron Chase and

Ben Frazier also added solid all-around play.

In other Bronco Division action:

Red Sox 7, Cardinals 3 - The Red Sox, left for dead after the regular

season with only three wins, have come alive in the playoffs, winning two

straight.

Pitchers Brock Schuler, Spencer Smith and Brett Houten combined for

seven strikeouts and no walks to lead the Red Sox, while on offense,

seven different players, including Tommy Olson (2 for 3) had hits.

Dodgers 6, Indians 5 - Eric Paine pitched three strong innings and

provided offense with four hits, including the game-winning RBI to lead

the Dodgers past the Indians.

Paine drove in Trey LaGrandeur, who started the seventh-inning rally

with a single.

R.J. D’Cruz pitched the final two innings and held the Indians to only

one hit to earn the win.

Dan Winkle had two hits, two runs scored and two RBIs, while Jake

Dayton, Robert Tumlin, Chase Behr, Jarrett Daniel, Alan Orozco, Ian

Goodwin and Jerry Whitney also contributed to the Dodgers’ success.

For the Indians, Garrett Gordon had three hits, while Andrew Kaban and

Nathan Todd each added two hits.

The offense was also sparked by Kyle Rohan, Jackson Massingill, Andrew

Kaban, Robert Rubio and Myles Christian, while Johnathan Sutterfield,

Robert Joslin and Joshua Jobsie anchored the Tribe’s defense.

In Mustang Division (ages 9-10) playoff action:

Dodgers 5, Mariners 3 - Pitchers Jeff Frum, Chris Griffin and Daniel

Norris combined to strike out nine to lead the Dodgers to victory.

Garrett McRoberts had two hits, while Frum added two RBIs. Griffin,

Norris and Max Jollife each contributed key hits, while Justin Cotham,

Victor Done, Jeff Allee, Peter Thomsen and David Blake-Panas contributed

heavily to the Dodgers’ cause.

The Mariners were led by Adrian Rodriguez, Joshua Jaye and Darren

Leggett.

Dodgers 10, Yankees 5 - Hitters Jeff Frum, Garrett McRoberts, Daniel

Norris and Chris Griffin combined to go 11 for 12 with nine RBIs to lead

the Dodgers’ attack.

Victor Done, Peter Thomsen and Jeff Allee added key hits, while David

Blake-Panas, Max Jollife, Braden Cluck and Justin Cotham anchored the

Dodger defense.

The Yankees were led by the strong play of Justin Todd, Kyle Lawrence

and Elliott Kaufman.
