Jacob Brodosky won two events to lead a strong contingent of Mesa View

Middle School athletes at last weekend’s Southern California Under-15

Regional Track Championships held at Gahr High in Cerritos.

Brodosky won the 400 meters (56.6), but his biggest performance came

in the mile where he set a meet, Southern California and state record

time (4:44) in his age group.

“The race was great, the competition was good and the crowd really

helped me,” Brodosky said. “I fell behind in the second and third laps,

but caught up by the fourth [lap] and started to feel really good. I was

totally mentally prepared for this race and I think that helped a lot.”

Brodosky joined teammates Charlie Schueneman, Brandon O’Bryan and Jeff

Mollica to help Mesa View to a second place finish in the 4x100-meter

relay (51.14).

“Jacob is one of the most determined athletes I have ever coached. . .

not only is he a great athlete, but he takes it to the next level by

dedicating himself and pushing the limits in every sport he plays,” Mesa

View Coach Kurt Lundberg said of Brodosky. “Plus, he hates to lose.”

Mesa View also received standout performances from Schueneman. The

Ocean View School District champion in the long and triple jumps, won the

regional with a jump of 17-4. Dirk Peterson won the 200 meters in 28.04,

Heather Harvey won the softball throw (132-feet) and the 4x100-meter

relay team of Peterson, Aaron Watenmaker, Tommy Niswander and Tyler Petry

won the race in 59.00.
