NEWPORT BEACH - Talk about a turnaround.

The Red Sox, mired in last place during the regular season, advanced

to the Newport Harbor Baseball Association Bronco Division title game

with a 6-1 semifinals win over the Cardinals.

The pitching trip of Brock Schuler, Spencer Smith and Brett Houten

combined to face only four batters above the minimum and allowed three

hits.

Stephen Keitzer made two sparkling catches in center field, while Matt

Helfrich came through with strong play at first base.

Seven different Red Sox players combined for 11 hits, while strong,

all-around play was displayed by Kyle Kula, Michel Thagard, Matt

Kretchmar and Cody McDonald.

The Red Sox will play today at 11 a.m. at Mariners Park in the Bronco

Division (ages 11-12) championship game against the Dodgers.
