This is regarding “Mobile skateboard park debuts in Costa Mesa” (May

29). I’ve been following the ongoing story in the Daily Pilot.

At first, I was disappointed by the Costa Mesa City Council’s

inability to build a permanent skate park. I considered the compromise

mobile skate park a less than adequate solution that reflected a lack of

leadership within our City Council.

After listening to my son describe his experience at the mobile skate

park, however, I want to compliment the City Council and city staff for

doing a fine job.

My son and wife had nothing but compliments for the staff running the

mobile skate park, from their obvious concern for the skaters’ safety to

their great attitude and willingness to rearrange the equipment to

maximize the skaters’ enjoyment.

Although I still look forward to a permanent skate park being built

within the city, this movable skate park is certainly a step in the right

direction.

Not all cities have a skate park, it has been pointed out, but

progressive cities concerned with providing recreational activities for

their youth do.
