NHBA Mustang baseball: Newport A All-Stars fare well

The Newport Harbor Baseball Association Mustang Division A All-Star

team is heading into the district tournament with some momentum as a

result of two solid tournament efforts.

At the Memorial Day Weekend Tournament in Irvine, Newport finished in

fifth place in the 28-team tourney, posting wins over Long Beach, 5-4,

Irvine, 17-5, and No. 1-seeded La Verne, 8-7, before falling to eventual

champion Whittier, 5-1.

From there, Newport placed third at the Los Alamitos Invitation

Tournament.

After finishing the round robin portion of the tourney in second place

and dropping a 1-0 decision to Los Alamitos, Newport posted victories

over Irvine, 11-9,, Tri-City, 24-3, and La Mirada, 8-4.

Newport is currently playing in the Dana Point Invitational through

Wednesday, before competing in the PONY District Tournament July 12.
