Kathleen Carson, daughter of Newport Beach residents Dan and Sue

Demille, graduated with honors from the UCLA School of Dentistry,

receiving two academic awards and an invitation into the Omicron Kappa

Upsilon National Honorary Society. Carson will perform her general

practice residency at the Veterans Administration in Sepulveda and, along

with husband Rob, is expecting her first child in August. . . . Soho

Sumiyoshi Lyn, son of Bernard and Dani Lyn in Newport Beach, has

graduated from Suffield Academy in Suffield, Conn. during the school’s

168th commencement exercises. . . . Costa Mesa-based developer Donahue

Schriber has promoted employee Mark Whitfield to the position of

executive vice president of development and appointed Jeffrey Chambers as

the vice president of development. Whitfield is responsible for both

development and acquisitions for the company, while Chambers’

responsibilities entail the sourcing and management of new development in

the Southern California and Nevada areas. . . . Tom Ryan and Scott

Conners, a regional manager and an operations manager, respectively, at

the Carson consulting and design firm in Costa Mesa, were named

principals in the company. . . . Former Costa Mesa High School graduate

William Anthony Spear, son of Bill and Becky Spear in Palm Coast, Fla.,

received his master’s degree in business administration from Jacksonville

University in Jacksonville, Fla. . . . Orange Coast College honored John

F. Dean, retired Orange County superintendent of schools, as the

Outstanding Citizen of 2001 during the college’s commencement ceremony.
