Ocean View pounds Westminster in Majors play
Ocean View Little League’s Majors division All-Star team used an eight
run first-inning explosion to make quick work of host Westminster, 17-3,
in the District 62 Little League All-Star Tournament on Saturday.
Ocean View sent 12 batters to the plate in the first inning, and
picked up seven hits.
Brett Sterbens and Steven Martinez had RBI singles, Scott Melchert
delivered a two-RBI double, Jon Grothe had a two-RBI single and Nick
Orendorff had a RBI.
The game was called after four innings of play.
Overall, Ocean View, which advanced in the double elimination
tournament and played Fountain Valley Wednesday, pounded out 18 hits and
one walk.
Joseph Park had three hits, four RBI and scored four runs, Melchert
had three hits, four RBI and scored once, Grothe had three hits, two RBI
and scored twice, Sterbens had two hits, an RBI and scored once,
Orendorff had a hit, two RBI and scored twice, Scott Baxter had two hits
and scored a run, Troy Davis doubled and finished with three RBI and
Martinez had a hit, RBI and scored twice.
In other District 62 action:
Seaview 2, Huntington Valley 1
Carl Eberts delivered a two-out RBI in the top of the sixth inning as
Seaview rallied in its final at-bat to defeat Huntington Valley, 2-1, in
a first round game at Robinwood Little League.
Tyler Chapman began the sixth inning comeback with a leadoff double
and, with one out, Michael Lucas singled to score Chapman and tie the
game. That set the stage for Eberts.
Seaview’s Greg Davis pitched four innings and allowed just one hit to
Huntington Valley, a first-inning home run to left field by Mike Mendez.
Jonathan Schoenberger pitched the fifth and Cort Ross closed with two
strikeouts in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Hunter White pitched a strong game for Huntington Valley with 10
strikeouts and five hits.

Ocean View 8, Fountain Valley 0
The pitching of Cole Tischer, Jordan Maddox and Zack Couey shut down
Fountain Valley during Saturday’s first round action at Westminster
Little League.
Tischer went four innings and allowed two hits and didn’t give up a
walk. Maddox and Couey each pitched an inning.
Tischer also finished off a four-run rally in the second inning with
an RBI single giving Ocean View a 5-0 lead.
Beau Amaral had a two-RBI single in the frame, leadoff batter Brandon
Holland singled and Blake Cestr doubled.
Amaral finished with two hits and three RBI and Couey singled twice to
pace the offense. Shortstop Jason Aden, who had several strong plays
early in the game to squelch Fountain Valley rallies, led the way on
defense.
