The Orange County Business Committee for the Arts is accepting

nominations for the 2001 Business in the Arts Awards, which are presented

every year to businesses with “outstanding” partnerships with the arts.

An arts organization, business or individual may nominate a business.

The deadline to submit nominations is 5 p.m. Sept. 13.

The ceremony will take place Nov. 18 at the Newport Beach Marriott

Hotel, 900 Newport Center Drive, Newport Beach.

Portrait exhibit to be at the library

“Portraits of Yesterday,” an exhibition of photographs by Jerome

Muller, will be on display throughout Aug. at the Newport Beach Central

Library, 1000 Avocado Ave.

The collection features black-and-white portraits of 1950s New York

and 1960s California. Muller, a former editor of Orange County

Illustrated, has worked with the such legends as Richard Avedon and

Irving Penn. He currently teaches publication design at Orange Coast

College.

An artist’s reception will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Aug. 1.

A ‘Swing!’ celebration during Eclectic Orange

The Eclectic Orange Festival will present Benny Goodman “Swing!” to

celebrate what would have been the performer’s 95th birthday at 8 p.m.

Oct. 26 at the Orange County Performing Arts Center, 600 Town Center

Drive, Costa Mesa.

Bandleader David Warble, soloist Richard Stoltzman playing the

clarinet and a big band orchestra will perform Goodman classics.

The evening will also dedicate the efforts of the Philharmonic Society

of Orange County.

Taking a storytelling flight of fantasy

Flights of Fantasy Story Theater will launch storytelling fun for kids

entering first through sixth grades at 10:30 a.m. July 30 in the Newport

Beach Central Library’s Friends Meeting Room,1000 Avocado Avenue.

The free program will be repeated at 3 p.m. Aug. 1 at Mariners Branch

Library, 2005 Dover Dr., and at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 2 at Balboa Branch

Library, 100 E. Balboa Blvd.

Vaudeville storytelling team Lorrie Oshatz and Royce Heron will tell

fun folk tales as part of Books and Beyond, the Newport Beach Public

Library’s children’s summer reading program.
