Boys water polo: CdM third at Villa Park tournament

VILLA PARK - The Corona del Mar High boys water polo team put

together a strong showing and placed third at the 32-team Villa Park Boys

18-and-under Water Polo Tournament this past weekend.

After a 13-2 win over Canyon in their first tournament game, the Sea

Kings continued to impress with an 18-4 win over Jurupa Valley. CdM

scored nine first-quarter goals and never looked back.

Artie Dorr, John Mann and Marcello Pantuliano each had three goals,

while Matt Meyer and Sherwin Kim each had two. Singles tallies were

provided by Jason DiRocco, John Money, David DiRocco and Beau Stockstill.

CdM’s third tourney game was a 12-7 win over Laguna Beach. Dorr, Mann

and Jason DiRocco each had three goals, while Money added two goals and

Pantuliano chipped in one.

The scoring spree continued in Game 4 against Villa Park, where the

Sea Kings posted a 13-4 win. Dorr and Mann led the way with three goals

each.

The Sea Kings’ one chink in the armor came in Game 5 against Coronado,

where CdM lost, 10-6. Mann, March and Dorr each had two goals in the

attack, but the loss sent CdM to the third-place game against Clovis.

Mann’s four goals helped pave the way for a 9-7 win for CdM over

Clovis. Bobby Messenger added two goals, while Dorr, Jason DiRocco and

Meyer added a goal a piece.

CdM was also led by a strong goaltending trio of Kim, Stockstill, as

Messenger.
