Friends In Service to Humanity has been named United Way South
Region’s Agency of the Year by the United Way’s Orange County chapter.
FISH, a nonprofit organization that helps low-income families to deal
with financial and other problems, received $1,000 from the United Way
along with the award.
The agency’s programs include transitional housing that leads to
permanent housing for the homeless, rental assistance to avoid eviction,
utility payments to avoid shut-off, mobile meal programs in partnership
with Hoag Hospital, child-care subsidies for working single parents,
“adopt-a-family” programs during the holidays, food for families and
homeless persons in need, transportation to medical and dental
appointments for the elderly, and bus tokens for the homeless.
