Surf and sun

THE WEATHER FORECAST

A partly cloudy morning with temperatures in the mid to upper 60s will

quickly turn into a bright, bright sunshiny day by early afternoon.

Though the temperatures are not predicted to rise above 78 -- which

should happen about 3 p.m. -- expect it to feel as if it’s actually in

the low 80s.

The UV index will probably hit 10 at 1 p.m., so plan to slather on

plenty of sunscreen, especially if you decide to hit the beach or the

Orange County Fair.

The afternoon should be filled with clear skies, with temperatures

tapering off quickly to the upper 60s as the sun goes down.

THE BOATING FORECAST

Patchy fog starts off the morning. Close to the shore, light winds

will blow, becoming 10 to 15 knots out of the west in the afternoon. The

seas will match it with 2-foot waves. A four-foot swell will come from

both the south and west.

In the evening, the fog of the morning will creep back in and the wind

will become light and variable.

In deeper waters, the wind will come out of the northwest, blowing 15

to 20 knots. A mixed 6-foot swell is expected to come from the southwest

and northwest. Wind waves will kick up two to three feet.

THE SURF REPORT

A southwest swell will bring chest- to shoulder-high surf into

well-exposed spots, with inconsistent head-high sets. Unfortunately, it

won’t last long as the surf will slowly begin to fade away by nightfall.
