Seaview downs Fountain Valley to win District 62 Majors All-Star

Seaview Little League earned the right to carry the District 62 banner

for the next year by winning the district’s 2001 All-Star Tournament last

week, defeating Fountain Valley, 7-2.

Seaview never trailed in the contest, although it had to overcome a

bases loaded jam in the first inning.

After getting out of the predicament unscathed, Seaview took command

in the second inning as singles by Carl Eberts and Bryan Visnoski helped

load the bases. From there, Greg Davis took a full count pitch to the

right-centerfield fence, driving in three runs.

Davis later would score on a passed ball to put Seaview in front, 4-0.

The third inning also proved to be big as Tyler Chapman began the

frame with a hit before Michael Lucas and Austin Morgan had RBI singles

for two more runs and a 6-0 edge.

Visnoski doubled in the fifth inning and later scored for a 7-0 lead.

Fountain Valley used two hits, a hit batter and a walk in its final

at-bat to score twice and avoid the shutout.

Chapman pitched five innings and allowed four hits while striking out

five.

John Schoenberger closed for Seaview, which advanced to compete in

sectional tournament action.

Its season came to an end following a 7-1 loss to West Garden Grove,

and an 8-7 extra inning setback to host La Mirada.

In the 9/10 Division finals:

Relegated early to the loser’s bracket of the double-elimination

tournament, Huntington Valley Little League came up with an amazing

six-game win streak to win the league’s first district championship.

In the District 62 championship series, Huntington Valley defeated

previously unbeaten Ocean View in two games, 9-1 and 8-2.

In the series opener, Race Parmenter got the win by dominating Ocean

View with 10 strikeouts along with a single walk.

Huntington Valley’s bats came alive in the fourth inning with a

leadoff double by Nick Mazzone and doubles by Parmenter and Dave Folger.

Singles by Michael Chairez, Tanner Phillips, Tim Higgins, Barry Luke and

a double by Ryan Little added up to a seven run outburst.

Huntington Valley added two more runs in the fifth inning to complete

a 9-1 victory.

Beau Amaral had two hits and scored the only Ocean View run. Starter

Cole Tischer pitched three strong innings and allowed Huntington Valley

just one hit.

In the championship game Wednesday, terrific pitching by both sides

kept the game scoreless until the fifth inning. Amaral no-hit Huntington

Valley for three innings and Alex Barnes gave up just one hit to Ocean

View during that period.

Ocean View scored twice in the fifth inning to grab the lead but in

the bottom of the inning, Huntington Valley rallied.

Following three consecutive walks and a fielding error, Barnes

delivered an RBI single to tie the game at 2-2. Singles by Brian Schwartz

and Chairez, and a double by Folger, helped Huntington Valley complete an

eight-run inning to win 8-2.

The Huntington Valley All-Stars, managed by Nick Mazzone, also include

Alex Holtz, Jake Gordon, Christian Slaton and Matt Reza.
