Temple Isaiah of Newport Beach will observe Tisha B’Av (the ninth day

of the Hebrew month of Av) with a special service 8 p.m. Sunday. Tisha

B’Av commemorates the destruction of King Solomon’s temple by the

HOUR OF PRAYER

OPEN HOUSES

Temple Isaiah of Newport Beach will hold open houses Aug. 12 and 26 to

welcome friends of the synagogue and newcomers. The Aug. 12 open house,

from 2 to 5 p.m., will include actor Peter Small doing his impression of

Golda Meir, the late Israeli prime minister. The Aug. 26 event, which

also starts at 2 p.m., will introduce attendees to Rabbi Marc Rubenstein,

who will speak about the upcoming High Holy Days. Interfaith couples are

PEACE WALK

Local community and faith-based organizations will gather Sept. 22 for

the eighth annual Orange County Peace Walk/Peace Jam 2001 at Triangle

Square. The free event will start at 11:30 a.m. and end at 4 p.m. There

will be musicians, an organized walk on the streets around Triangle

Square, displays, raffles and more in celebration of the United Nations’

WORKSHOPS

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL

The Costa Mesa Lighthouse, a Nazarene church, will offer a vacation

bible school from 7 to 9 p.m. Aug. 20-24. The school, for children in

A SPIRITUAL JOURNEY

A 26-lesson study on the life of Jesus Christ titled “Journey to the

MEDITATION LESSONS

A “lectio divina” meditation group meeting will be held at 7:10 a.m.

Tuesdays at Our Lady Queen of Angels, 2046 Mar Vista Drive, Newport

Beach. Lectio is a style of meditation that includes using Scripture or a

Jewish Family Services is sponsoring a discussion group focusing on

the issues and concerns faced by adult children taking care of their
