Girls water polo: Harbor wins Irvine tourney
NEWPORT BEACH - The Newport Harbor girls water polo summer team,
which features players who will make up next season’s varsity under Coach
Bill Barnett, went undefeated last weekend and captured the Irvine
Tournament.
In the eight-team tournament, held at University High, Newport Harbor
beat Agoura Hills, 10-4, in the championship game Sunday as Jenna Murphy
scored five goals.
Harbor teammates Amber Braly (three goals), Paige Lansing (one) and
Ashley Parole (one) also reached the back of the cage on shots, while
Newport goalkeeper Leah Grocke recorded six saves.
In the semifinals, Newport Harbor topped host Uni, 12-5, with the
left-handed Murphy leading the way with five tallies, while Annie Wight
added four goals. Parole, Ashley Gulinski and Peggy Beebe scored one goal
each for the winners, while Grocke had seven saves.
