COSTA MESA - Top-seeded Jake Fleming of Newport Beach defeated

Charlie Alvarado of Costa Mesa, 6-0, 6-1, in the boys 12s quarterfinals

Wednesday in the ninth annual Costa Mesa Junior Open Summer Classic at

Costa Mesa Tennis Center.

Fleming will play unseeded Nicolas Patonai of Malibu in today’s

semifinals at 11 a.m.

In the boys 16s, top-seeded Kaes Van’t Hof of Newport Beach defeated

Jae Choi of La Palma, 6-2, 6-4, in the Round of 16.

Headlining the girls 12s, second-seeded Nelly Radeva of Costa Mesa

defeated Thein Nguyen of Long Beach in Wednesday’s quarterfinals, 6-3,

6-3, while Newport Beach’s Sarah Geocaris upset third-seeded Stephanie

Hammel of Placentia, 6-3, 6-2, to advance.

Radeva will face Geocaris in today’s semifinals at 11 a.m. In the

other semifinal, fourth-seeded Carissa Aboubakarea (Orange) will play

unseeded Rebeca Delgado of Mexico. Delgado upset top-seeded Jillian

Braverman of Newport Beach, 6-2, 1-6, 6-0, Tuesday in the Round of 16.

“These four girls (including Delgado) who came up from Mexico City are

pretty tough,” tournament co-director Tim Brunet said.

In the girls 18s, Brittany Minna of Newport Beach beat Costa Mesa’s

Kelly Nelson, 6-4, 6-1, in the Round of 16, while Leslie Damion of

Newport Beach also advanced with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Genevieve Spink of

Anchorage, Alaska.

Bonnie Adams of Newport Beach, seeded third in the girls 16s, defeated

Laura Robinson of Orange, 6-2, 6-3, in the quarterfinals Wednesday.

Newport Beach’s Amanda Rubenstein and Carmen Khoury were eliminated in

the girls 18s Round of 16, while Newport’s Hayley Young in the 14s and

Costa Mesa’s Krista McIntosh in the 16s were eliminated in the

quarterfinals.

Newport Beach’s Robert Khoury, seeded second, lost to Lau Walter of

Fountain Valley, 7-5, 6-1, in the boys 14s quarterfinals.

Newport’s Spence Reitz and Hashem Alattas lost in the 16s Round of 16, while top-seeded Charlie Corum of Costa Mesa and Chris Damion of Newport

Beach were eliminated in the boys 10s quarterfinals.
