South Coast Repertory officials have announced that the theater’s 37th
season, which will end Aug. 31, boasted impressive figures in both
attendance and sales.
SCR’s subscribers and ticket buyers totaled more than 160,000, with
2,000 visitors to the fourth annual Pacific Playwrights Festival. The
number is an increase from previous years.
The theater’s Annual Fund campaign beat its goal of $2 million by
$90,000, and more than 1,600 people enrolled in SCR’s Professional
Conservatory, Theatre Conservatory and Young Conservatory.

Board president for South Coast Rep reelected
Paul Folino, president of the South Coast Repertory Board of Trustees,
was reelected late last month to head the theater through its 38th
season.
Folino, chief executive of the Emulex Corp., joined the board in 1996
and has served as vice president of finance for three seasons. The Folino
family also donated $2.5 million to SCR’s “The Next Stage” campaign last
year.
Eight new members were elected to the board: Mary K. Carrington, Chris
Copps, Lawrence M. Higby, Linda Hovee, Joann Leatherby, Thomas B. Rogers,
Paul Stam and Martin Weinberg.

Auditions will be held for musicians
Animal Crackers Entertainment will hold an open audition Aug. 12 at
the Orange County Market Place in Costa Mesa in search of four musicians
to form a backup band for Russ Sadick’s future performances.
Sadick is a longtime celebrity stand-in for Barry Manilow.
The audition will be held from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at 88 Fair Drive,
Costa Mesa. The band will be called The Copa Band.

Costa Mesa chorus to perform in Northwest
The All-American Boys Chorus, based in Costa Mesa, will perform in the
Pacific Northwest and Canada through mid-August.
The Touring Chorus is made up of 36 boys between the ages of 8 and 15.
The group’s second major tour this year will begin Sept. 14 with stops in North and South Carolina, Alabama, Oklahoma and Arkansas.

OCC Theatre Department announces season’s lineup
Orange Coast College’s Theatre Department has announced its 2001-02
season lineup, a schedule rife with both comedies and dramas.
Short comedies by Anton Chekhov will open the season Sept. 8, 9, 15
and 16.
Following these shorts will be a Lisa Loomer comedy titled “The
Waiting Room,” a play that also poses questions about medical ethics and
sexual stereotypes.
The season will continue with “A Doll’s House,” a classic drama by
Henrik Ibsen, as well as a collection of plays that run 10 minutes or
less, Christmas shows, works by Shakespeare and a slew of more comedies
and even a historic play.
