A disoriented man in jogging clothes and running shoes who walked into

Hoag Hospital’s emergency room Wednesday morning who said he didn’t know

his identity is still undergoing tests, hospital officials said Thursday.

The man, in his 20s, was expected to be held at the hospital Thursday,

spokeswoman Karen Lindsay said.

“We’ll release him to county authorities if we cannot determine a

medical cause for the amnesia,” she said. “But we don’t know yet when

he’ll be released.”

County officials were not clear where the man would be taken but said

he might either be handed over to the Health Care Agency or to the public

guardian.

The hospital sought the help of the Newport Beach Police Department to

help identify the man, but officers could not find any leads Wednesday,

Sgt. Steve Shulman said. As of Thursday evening, nobody had approached

the police regarding the disoriented man.

Police ran his fingerprints through the system but found he did not

have a criminal record. Police had also determined he is not likely to be

a homeless man because of his clean clothes and his manner, Shulman said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Sgt. Tom Gazsi at (949)

644-3785 or the watch commander at (949) 644-3730.
