Tennis: Titles at stake in Costa Mesa Junior Open

COSTA MESA - Top-seeded Jake Fleming of Newport Beach in the boys
12s and second-seeded Nelly Radeva of Costa Mesa in the girls 12s will
play for championships today in the ninth annual Costa Mesa Junior Open
Summer Classic at Costa Mesa Tennis Center.
In doubles, Newport Beach’s Bonnie Adams and Costa Mesa’s Krista
McIntosh will face Jamison Steele (Newport Beach) and Jessica Langer in
the finals of the girls 16s today at 2 p.m.
In Thursday’s semifinals, Fleming defeated Nicolas Patonai of Malibu,
6-0, 6-1, and will play Irvine’s Danny Desatnik, the second seed, in the
finals today at 9 a.m.
Radeva beat Newport Beach’s Sarah Geocaris, 7-6, 6-1, in the girls 12s
semifinals Thursday to advance against fourth-seeded Carissa Aboubakare
of Orange. Radeva and Aboubakare square off at 1:30 p.m. today.
In the boys 16s singles Thursday, Newport Beach’s Kaes Van’t Hof,
seeded first, was upset in the semifinals by Nathan Stadler of Redondo
Beach. The unseeded Stadler won 3-6, 6-1, 7-6. Van’t Hof defeated Adrian
Ang of Cypress, 6-1, 6-3, in the quarterfinals.
In the girls 16s, third-seeded Adams lost to Michelle Eaquivel of
Buena Park, 6-1, 6-2, in the semifinals.
