A power outage hit parts of Newport Beach and Costa Mesa about 9 p.m.

Tuesday.

The blackout affected about 1,800 customers along a stretch of Irvine

Boulevard south of 17th Street and north of 15th Street, said Steve

Hansen, a spokesman for Southern California Edison. The cause was not

known, but crews were expected to have the lights back on within two

hours, he added.

The outage didn’t affect Hoag Hospital, said Irene Dorantes, a worker

on duty at the time.

Newport Beach police also reported no outage-related disturbances,

Sgt. Mike McDermott said.

The incident was not related to planned rolling blackouts, Hansen

said. Rolling blackouts would most likely occur in the late afternoon and

customers would be notified in advance, he said.
