Samantha Panet of Newport Beach was one of 1,000 students who received

graduate degrees in June from Northeastern University in Boston. Panet

earned a master’s degree from Northeastern’s Bouve College of Pharmacy

and Health Sciences. . . . Marine Corps Cpl. Anthony A. Arevalos has

reported for duty with the 1st Supply Battalion of the First Force

Service Support Group at Camp Pendleton. Arevalos is a 1996 Costa Mesa

High School graduate. . . . Navy Capt. William D. Valentine Jr., son of

William and Lois Valentine of Costa Mesa, has been assigned as commanding

officer of the Shreveport ship. The 1974 Costa Mesa High School graduate

has been with the Navy 23 years. Ships such as the Shreveport are used to

transport and land Marines, their equipment and supplies. . . . Marine

Corps Pvt. Thomas R. Hartung, a 1998 Costa Mesa High School graduate has

completed basic training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego.

Hartung completed classroom and field assignments, including uniform

regulations, combat water survival, marksmanship, hand-to-hand combat and

weapons training. . . . Chad Gniffke of the Newport Beach-based

technology firm inhouseIT has been named account manager. Gniffke will

help current clients move forward with technology and assist in their

long-term needs. Gniffke joined inhouseIT two years ago as an information

technology manager and has a bachelor’s degree in business from Cal State

Fullerton. . . . Newport Beach resident Robert M. Bennett, owner and

founder of Bennett Productions Inc. of Los Alamitos, was elected chairman

of the board of the Muscular Dystrophy Assn. Bennett has been a volunteer

national leader of the group since the 1960s and a member of the

association’s board of directors since 1981. Bennett is the former

chairman of the board of Transatlantic Entertainment Inc. of Los Angeles

and the former president of Metromedia Broadcasting. . . . Arthur Ross of

Costa Mesa was named to Bowling Green State University’s 2001 spring

quarter dean’s list. The arts and sciences junior earned a grade-point

average of 3.5 or better while taking 12 or more units. . . . Julie

Browning has been hired as an account executive at Newport Beach-based

Point B Inc., an independent health care agency. Browning was formerly an

account executive for Foote, Cone and Belding, Health care West,

responsible for Toshiba America Medical Systems and Edwards Lifesciences

accounts. Browning earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing with an

advertising concentration from Cal State San Bernardino.
