We’re a little confused about the actions of Costa Mesa Councilwoman

Karen Robinson at the last City Council meeting.

During the meeting, the council was asked to review a proposed access

point to Fairview Park at the cul-de-sac end of Canary Drive. Because

Robinson lived on the street in question, she excused herself from the

dais.

However, she did not excuse herself from the discussion.

While no longer wearing her formal elected official hat, Robinson

addressed the council as a resident and stated her opinion about the

proposed stairway at the end of her street.

Although we’re sure the councilwoman made sure of the legality of her

actions, we are not so sure about her motivation.

There were plenty of residents who expressed the same view as

Robinson. Did she feel it was her duty to show camaraderie with her

neighbors? Did she feel her fellow residents did not do an adequate job

outlining the concerns?

Perhaps she figured that repositioning herself in the room would make

people forget that she was an elected official and therefore require them

to treat her opinion the same as your average Joe.
