The Costa Mesa City Council is looking for community input to help
guide it toward a solution for the traffic problems on Newport Boulevard
between 17th and 19th streets.
The council is accepting letters of interest from people who want to
serve on the newly formed Downtown and Eastside Transportation Committee.
The ad hoc committee was established to advise city staff and the council
in addressing traffic circulation on the main thoroughfare and problems
associated with drivers using Eastside streets as an alternative.
In addition, the committee will assess opportunities for improving
pedestrian and bicycle access, parking and median designs, officials
said.
The committee will consist of four residents from the Eastside, four
17th Street business representatives and three Newport Boulevard business
representatives. Members must be willing to commit the required time --
which has not been specified -- and regularly attend meetings. Meeting
times will be decided after members are appointed, officials said.
Those interested should complete a Committee Interest Form --
available at City Hall or on o7 https://www.ci.costa-mesa.ca.usf7 -- or
submit a letter of interest to the City Council, City Hall, P.O. Box
1200, Costa Mesa, CA 92628-1200. Inquiries must be received by Sept. 5.
